An Ancient Tree Rich Heritage The great Acacia tree, which can be found in all continents, has carved a prominent niche in the annals of history and civilization. Since ancient times, this full canopied semi evergreen has been used to serve a vast variety of human purposes. Prehistoric civilizations used its sturdy, hard wearing wood to make clubs, spears, boomerangs and shields. The Australian aborigines discovered its medicinal purposes and used extracts from its leaves and bark to treat toothaches, wounds and burns. The early English wove the Acacia’s rods and twigs and plastered them with mud or clay for fences, walls and roofs. To this day, the tree is an important source of gum and tannin. The Acacia played a proud role through biblical times, when it was referred to as “incorruptible wood”. The Ark of the Covenant the, the table of the loaves of proposition, the altar of holocausts, the altar of incense and the wooden parts of the tabernacle were all made if acacia wood. Through the years, Acacia Home and Garden has drawn encouragement from the trees integrity, utility and longevity. Inspired by the noble tree from which it takes name and symbol.
